A Measure of Relatedness for Selecting Consolidated Task Knowledge
نویسندگان
چکیده
The selective transfer of task knowledge is studied within the context of multiple task learning (MTL) neural networks. Given a consolidated MTL network of previously learned tasks and a new primary task, T0, a measure of task relatedness is derived. The existing consolidated MTL network representation is fixed and an output for task T0 is connected to the hidden nodes of the network and trained. The cosine similarity between the hidden to output weight vectors for T0 and the weight vectors for each of the previously learned tasks is used as measure of task relatedness. The most related tasks are then used to learn T0 within a new MTL network using the task rehearsal method. Results of an empirical study on two synthetic domains of invariant concept tasks demonstrate the method’s ability to selectively transfer knowledge from the most related tasks so as to develop hypotheses with superior generalization.

The Impact of Decision-making Tasks and Production Tasks On the Collocational Knowledge of Iranian Intermediate EFL Learners
The current study is an attempt to investigate the impact of decision-making (selecting and matching) tasks and production (creation of sentences and completion of sentences) tasks on the collocational knowledge of Iranian intermediate EFL learners. To this end, sixty EFL learners were divided into two experimental (decision-making and production) groups. To determine the effects of the tasks, ...

In this paper, we describe our system submitted for the semantic textual similarity (STS) task at SemEval 2012. We implemented two approaches to calculate the degree of similarity between two sentences. First approach combines corpus-based semantic relatedness measure over the whole sentence with the knowledge-based semantic similarity scores obtained for the words falling under the same syntac...

متن کاملThe Task Rehearsal Method of Sequential Learning
An hypothesis of functional transfer of task knowledge is presented that requires the development of a measure of task relatedness and a method of sequential learning. The task rehearsal method (TRM) is introduced to address the issues of sequential learning, namely retention and transfer of knowledge. TRM is a knowledge based inductive learning system that uses functional domain knowledge as a...
